Welcome to the premiere issue of the GSA Reporter "News in Brief" (NiB). NiB is a concise electronic newsletter highlighting timely and important GSA information. NiB will not replace the traditional hard copy edition of the GSA Reporter. Instead, NiB will be circulated bimonthly via email. Georgette A. Dent M.D., Elected Next GSA National Vice-Chair
Dr. Georgette Dent, associate dean for student affairs, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, School of Medicine, has been elected as the 2005–2006 GSA National Vice-Chair. Dr. Dent will serve a one-year term as GSA National Vice-Chair; thereafter, she will function for one year each as the GSA National Chair-Elect, GSA National Chair, and, finally, as the Immediate Past GSA National Chair. Dr. Dent officially begins her term as Vice-Chair after the GSA Business Meeting at the AAMC Annual Meeting in Washington, DC (November 6, 2005). Marvin "Ted" Williams, Ph.D., Assumes Position of GSA-MAS National Chair
Dr. Marvin "Ted" Williams, associate vice president for diversity and equal opportunity, University of South Florida, College of Medicine, will assume responsibilities as GSA-MAS National Chair at the conclusion of the 2005 AAMC Annual Meeting. Dr. Williams was elected to this position at the AAMC Annual Meeting in 2003. He will serve as GSA-MAS National Chair from 2005 through 2007.

2005 GSA New Member Orientation
This annual session for new GSA representatives will be held during the AAMC Annual Meeting on Friday, November 4, 2005, from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. If you have been in your position at your medical school less than a year, or if this is your first GSA meeting, you are welcome to attend. Don't miss this excellent opportunity to meet the GSA/GSA-MAS national officers, GSA national committee chairs, GSA regional chairs, and AAMC Section for Student Affairs and Programs staff.
